Count Gregorio Scati bought the Quartino in 1684 from the Avellani Counts. The house was built, in the first nucleus, in the years immediately following the purchase. In 1883 Count Vittorio Emanuele Scati di Casaleggio continued the enlargement of the villa on the designs of Giovanni Ceruti, a well-known designer of the time, author also of the Bollente project and of the first nucleus of the Grand Hotel "Nuove Terme".

Between the end of the 1800s and the beginning of the 1900s, in the middle of the Liberty period, the extension works were completed, allowing the villa to assume its current dimensions and appearance. The Scati family, the only noble family of Acqui origin present at the Savoy court, reached its maximum splendor when the Marquise Costanza Scati Grimaldi del Poggetto became lady-in-waiting of Queen Maria Adelaide.

In that period many illustrious personages were guests at the villa, including Guglielmo Marconi, Silvio Pellico and exponents of the Savoy family and the nobility of the time. Among the various exponents of the House, we must remember Vittorio Emanuele Scati (1844 - 1904), eminent scholar of local history of regional renown. He was the mayor of the town, making realize many public works, the most significant of which is the road section of the Recamo. 

It is said that, hidden, ancient tunnels connect the Villa to the overhanging Castle of Melazzo (where from 1330 to 1333 Henry II Plantagenet King of England spent the last years of his life).

When Vincenzo Barbero bought the villa from the Marquis Scati, the huge complex was in a state of semi-abandonment. Acquired all the permits in 2000 began the restoration work lasted almost 5 years and carried out by his family, because unfortunately in 2002 Vincenzo had passed away. The villa has been entirely restored.
